    L'accord de Schengen remonte à 1985 quand 5 pays, Benelux, France et Allemagne signaient pour la première fois un document réglant l'espace de circulation entre leurs territoires. Dans cet article nous analysons les limites d'une approche géopolitique ou juridique unitaire de l'espace Schengen, pour privilégier plutôt une analyse de cet espace en tant que dispositif de sécurité, au sens que Foucault donne à cette expression dans son cours des années 1977-78. Il s'agira aussi de problématiser certaines des catégories traditionnelles utilisées dans le cadre des études concernant les frontières et les migrations, telles que les oppositions entre inclusion et exclusion, entre migrants légaux et illégaux, pour souligner que toute frontière vise plus à gérer la mobilité en la différenciant qu'à y faire obstacle tout court.

    The Schengen agreement was signed in 1985 when 5 countries, Benelux, France and Germany decided for the very first time to create a space of free circulation. The aim of this article is to analyse the contradictions and limits of a geopolitical or juridical approach to the Schengen space. For this reason the article puts forward a foucaldian approach to analyse the Schengen space as a «security device», in the sense used by Foucault in his lessons of 1977-1978. The article aims also to complexify some of the usual categories deployed in borders and migrations studies, such as the opposition between inclusion and exclusion, between legal and illegal migrants, in order to point out that the border government tends more to regulate mobility through the differantiation of migration fluxes rather than managing the immobilisation of migrations.
