  • Resumen
    • The structural engineer’s client relationship is no diff erent from any fellow professional’s client relationship in that it is fundamental to how the service is delivered, cardinal to the success of the project, and vital to the development of a longterm working association.

This article aims to outline a few of the more common client types with which the structural engineer will be involved during general practice in the UK. It also addresses ways in which the structural engineer may satisfy the likely expectations of these client types, or of the people who represent them. However, the article will not make specifi c recommendations as to how to satisfy a particular client.

The article does not cover terms of engagement or contractual arrangements (and their potential pitfalls), as these are complex subjects with legal ramifi cations.
