    El edificio de Correos (Luís Ferrero-1916), pertenece a la arquitectura monumentalista propia de la edificación pública de la época, siendo un referente estilístico local del casticismo. Edificio muy castigado por intervenciones poco afortunadas que merece un estudio particular que devuelva su protagonismo en la escena urbana.

    Se plantea la recuperación del volumen original del inmueble, envolvente de la reestructuración interior donde se desarrollará el programa indicado en las bases. A estos efectos y considerando el mal estado general de la estructura horizontal, se propone la conservación de los elementos murarios del perímetro y torres de fachada, sustituyendo la estructura interna de soportes y forjados por un sistema de nueva planta, a excepción del forjado de planta baja, que se mantendrá.

    Hay que señalar el proceso de investigación, histórica, gráfica y literaria sobre el edificio, su origen, estado anterior del edificio, variaciones en el tiempo, etc. Con ello, se pueden conocer y valorar las transformaciones y proponer una restauración en su justo término. Un trabajo, junto con el diseño arquitectónico y los estudios de apoyo realizado por todo el equipo del IRP.

    The Correos building (Luís Ferrero, 1916) is characteristic of the monumental public architecture at the beginning of the 20th century, serving as a stylistic reference for Spanish casticismo. It is also a building that has undergone improper interventions and deserves a special study so that it recovers its prominence in the city setting.

    The project considers recovering the original volume of the building, a restructuring of the interior where the programme described in the tender conditions will be undertaken. In order to accomplish this, and considering the poor state of overall conservation of the horizontal structure, a conservation of the mural elements of both the perimeter and façade towers is proposed by substituting the internal structure of supports and frameworks for a new floor system, except for the first floor which will be maintained.

    Special attention must be drawn to the process of historical, graphic, literary research that led to an understanding of the origins of the building and former conformations changes made with the pass of time, etc. With this information, it is possible to understand and value the transformations undertaken and therefore propose a suitable restoration. This project was the result of all the IRP team.
