The article reports on experiments which quash the hope that the unsettling phenomenon of quantum entanglement can be explained away. Topics discussed include an equation for quantum mechanics published by physicist John Bell in 1964 in the form of a mathematical inequality, background on quantum mechanics and Bell's analysis of a thought experiment by Einstein, with his collaborators Boris Podolsky and Nathan Rosen, known together as EPR.
