Resumen de Desarrollo turístico en Cabo Verde. Perfil y percepción del residente en Sao Nicolau

  El desarrollo turístico de una determinada zona requiere de la interacción de una serie de agentes, en este marco no hay duda que los residentes no pueden quedar al margen de los procesos de planificación turística, de ahí la importancia de conocer sus percepciones. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de una investigación en la que se analiza la opinión y percepción que tienen los residentes de Sao Nicolau (una de las islas del archipiélago de Cabo Verde) respecto a diferentes variables relacionadas con el desarrollo turístico; asimismo se analiza la evolución que ha tenido la actividad turística en el país. Las conclusiones muestran que el residente es consciente del potencial turístico de la isla al valorar positivamente aspectos de la oferta como el clima, playa y hospitalidad, pero también es conocedor de las debilidades como la oferta de ocio y la información y señalización. La mayoría está a favor de un mayor desarrollo turístico porque perciben los impactos positivos del mismo en mayor medida que los negativos. También se discuten las implicaciones prácticas del estudio.

  T he tourist development of a certain area requires the interaction of a series of agents;

  in this framework there is no doubt that residents cannot be left out of the tourism planning processes, hence the importance of knowing their perceptions. This article presents the results of an investigation that analyses the opinion and perception of the residents of sao nicolau (one of the islands of the cape verde archipelago) regarding different variables related to tourism development; furthermore, the evolution of tourism activity in the country is also analysed. The conclusions show that the resident is aware of the touristic potential of the island by positively assessing aspects of the offer such as climate, beach and hospitality, but residents are also aware of weaknesses such as the offer of leisure and information and signage. The majority are in favour of greater tourism development because they perceive its positive impacts to a greater extent than the negative ones. The practical implications of the study are also discussed.
