    Como consecuencia de las graves deficiencias detectadas durante la intervención militar rusa en Georgia en el verano de 2008 y la nueva percepción en la Federación Rusa de su entorno geopolítico, en el que se interpreta la potencial expansión de la OTAN como una amenaza para su zona de influencia, el Kremlin inició una profunda reforma militar.

    Las intervenciones armadas rusas en Crimea, Ucrania oriental y Siria han puesto de manifiesto una notable mejora de la capacidad operativa de sus Fuerzas Armadas y la gran habilidad del presidente Putin para utilizar el instrumento militar con la finalidad de rehabilitar a Rusia como gran potencia. Esta situación ha devuelto el protagonismo al poder militar ruso y a la frontera oriental de la OTAN, donde el renovado álgebra de la Guerra Fría ha abierto importantes interrogantes acerca de los peligros que de ella se derivan.

    As a result of the serious failures detected during the russian military intervention in Georgia during the summer of 2008 and the new perception in the Russian Federation of its geopolitical environment, in which the potential expansion of NATO is interpreted as a threat to its area of influence, the Kremlin started a profound military reform. Russian military interventions in the Crimea, eastern Ukraine and Syria have revealed both a remarkable improvement in the operational skill of its Armed Forces and the great ability of President Putin to use the military tool to restore Russia as a great power. This situation has turned the focus to the Russian military force and to the NATO eastern border, where the renewed algebra of the Cold War has opened important questions about the danger that derives from it.
