Ramon Llull en Italia: una perspectiva a partir de Menéndez Pelayo

    Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo, en su primera Carta italiana publicada en la revista La Tertulia de Santander en 1877, citaba a Ramon Llull afirmando que el iluminado doctor recorrió Italia a fin de buscar protección y apoyo para los dos grandes proyectos de su vida: la cruzada y la adopción del Ars Magna en las escuelas en vez de la enseñanza averroísta, y señalando el fracaso de sus propósitos. Este trabajo quiere volver sobre los viajes de Ramon Llull a Italia a partir de estas consideraciones del estudioso santanderino, para profundizar en ellas y actualizarlas a la luz de posteriores y más actuales investigaciones, averiguando hasta qué punto siguen vigentes. Pretende poner en evidencia que Menéndez Pelayo fue pionero a finales del siglo xix en intuir la importancia de Ramon Llull y de sus estancias en Italia.

    Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo, in his first letter written in Italy and published in the journal of Santander La Tertulia in 1877, quoted Ramon Llull, stating that the Doctor Illuminatus traveled through Italy in order to search for protection and support for the two main projects of his life: the crusade and the adoption of Ars Magna at schools instead of the Averroist teaching, and pointed out the failure of his aims. This paper intends to go back to the journeys of Ramon Llull in Italy starting from these statements of the scholar from Santander, to go deeply into and to actualize them taking into account subsequent and more updated research, to find out to what extent they are valid. It seeks to show that Menéndez Pelayo was among the first who, at the end of 19th century, realized the importance of Ramon Llull and his stays in Italy.
