  • Resumen
    • Firth details how decisions can now be genuinely democratic, thanks to the Internet. Voter turnout has been steadily declining in established democracies in Europe, Latin America and the US for the past few decades. Turnout for the last three general elections in the UK, for example, has been the lowest since the 1940s. New online tools are revitalizing old democratic practices, bypassing the political middlemen and even offering the prospect of a world without politicians at all. For some, the birth of the Internet spelled the end for politicians. Digital rights activist Aaron Swartz, who killed himself in 2013, believed it could reinvent democracy.
