Resumen de Riflessioni sul soggiorno di Gherardo Starnina a Valenza

The long stay of the Florentine painter Gherardo Stamina in Valencia at the end of the fourteenth century has always raised more doubts than certainties, for a number of reasons, including a lack of documented works, complications surrounding the paintings attributed to him, and the presence of unvalidated documents. This paper therefore explores the few surviving documents and the possible presence of co-workers with the master, referencing the few works officialy attributed to him and examining a painting probably of Valencian origin. The purpose is to clarify, in part working with the informations available, an important stage in the artistic life of the Florentine painter, so important to the development of Tuscan late-Gothic painting.

La lunga permanenza del pittore fiorentino Gherardo Starnina a Valenza alla fine del Trecento ha sempre sollevato molti più dubbi che certezze, per una serie di motivi, tra cui la mancanza di opere documentate, le problematiche che accompagnano i pochi dipinti attribuitigli e una serie di documenti senza riscontro. Si è provato dunque ad analizzare i pochi documenti pervenutici, e l’eventuale presenza di collaboratori accanto al maestro, citando le poche opere che gli sono assegnate e esaminando un dipinto che probabilmente proviene da Valenza. Si spera in tal modo di chiarire in parte, in base ai dati che ci sono pervenuti, una tappa importante della vita artistica del pittore fiorentino, così decisivo anche per gli sviluppi della pittura tardogotica toscana.
