    • The article discusses the origin of carbon which is synonymous with life. Carbon is the sixth element on the periodic table and is the fourth most abundant element in the universe despite the fact that it did not exist when the universe was created. Topics include the reactions in the core of a young star, including the collision of atomic nuclei to form various substances such as helium and beryllium, and how the conditions within a star as it decays leads to the formation of carbon.
