  • The article discusses the origin of infertility drugs and their role in sparking a reproductive liberation movement in the U.S. The oral contraceptive which is simply known as "the pill" was envisioned by family-planning advocate Margaret Sanger. Topics include the discovery of the role of steroid hormones in the body, their therapeutic potential, and the use of progesterone for treating menstrual irregularities which led to the creation of a drug to suspend ovulation.
