  • The article examines the mass deaths of South Africa's Nile river crocodiles. Rangers at the Kruger National Park have found crocodiles floating and bloated in the Olifants River and also decaying along the riverbank. Topics include an overview of the Olifants River which supplies water to the agriculture industry, the discovery by researchers of pansteatitis, which is inflammation of adipose tissue, in the dead crocodiles, and the difficulty in determining the cause of the die-offs.
