The article examines three unconventional techniques for the recovery of oil including an incendiary technique which requires injecting air into the ground and then burning part of the reservoir, the injection of chemical substances into a reservoir, such as surfactants to help detach oil from the rocks and help it flow better, and the injection of bacteria, which also aids in the release of oil from the rocks.
