Resumen de Tradicionalismo maquiado de progressismo: análise semiótica dos discursos do Padre Fábio de Melo

O catolicismo, em terras brasileiras, dotado ainda de certo prestígio histórico-social, tem procurado reformar os seus discursos, elaborando novas estratégias de comunicação, sobretudo nos meios midiáticos. Este artigo se propõe a examinar as novas estratégias de comunicação adotadas pelo discurso religioso católico, a partir da análise do discurso do Padre Fábio de Melo no programa televisivo “Direção Espiritual”. A pesquisa objetivou examinar as estratégias discursivas adotadas por Padre Fábio de Melo em sua exortação, avaliando as relações contratuais entre enunciador e enunciatário, bem como analisar o recobrimento temático-figurativo dos seus conselhos, para deles depreender os valores semânticos subjacentes, a qualificação axiológica que os orienta. Para a análise do conteúdo do vídeo selecionado, utilizamos o instrumental teórico-metodológico oferecido pela semiótica greimasiana, que visa a descrever e explicar, através do percurso gerativo do sentido, como o texto diz o que diz, ou seja, como o sentido é construído em determinado discurso. Com base em um dos programas, cujo tema era o aborto, mostramos como o discurso proferido por um dos padres mais celebrados atualmente no contexto católico brasileiro tende a constituir valores implícitos que procuram responder às necessidades da Igreja em recuperar os fiéis perdidos, desprovendo-se de sanções explicitamente punitivas.

Catholicism in Brazilian lands, still endowed with a certain socialhistoricalprestige, has sought to reform its discourses, elaborating new strategiesof communication, especially in the media. This article proposes toexamine the new strategies of communication adopted by the Catholic religiousdiscourse, starting from the analysis of the discourse of Father Fábio de Meloin the television program “Spiritual Guiding”. The research aimed to examinethe discursive strategies adopted by Father Fábio de Melo in his exhortation– prioritizing verbal language, the contractual relations between enunciatorand enunciatee were evaluated–, as well as to analyze the thematic-figurativecovering of his counsels, to understand the semantic values underlying them,the axiological qualification that guides them. For the analysis of the contentof the selected video, we use the theoretical-methodological tools offered bythe Greimasian semiotics, which aims to describe and explain, through thegenerative path of meaning, how texts say what they say, that is, how meaningis constructed in a given discourse. Based on one of the programs whosetheme was abortion, we show how the discourse delivered by one of themost celebrated priests in the Brazilian Catholic context tends to constituteimplicit values that seek to respond to the needs of the Church in recoveringthe lost faith, disengaging from explicitly punitive sanctions, since after theSecond Vatican Council the Church has experienced changes in the very structureof its way of thinking, approaching daily realities and, consequently,adopting a more pastoral and less normative approach. Being, therefore, achange of mentalitywhich, although not in arevolutionary way, ispertinenttothe socio-institutional contextualization of the Catholicism.
