La filosofía en el contexto de la política científica actual en Argentina

    La supervivencia académica de la filosofía está sometida actualmente en Argentina a una presión impuesta por criterios de productividad e impacto alentados a través del rediseño en curso del sistema científico. Si bien este proceso en desarrollo creciente atañe a las ciencias básicas en general, puede advertirse que aspectos específicos de la elaboración del conocimiento filosófico, incluyendo sus períodos de tiempo y criterios de validación tradicionales, son difícilmente compatibles con una idea de conocimiento socialmente dominante cada vez más orientada a la aplicación y al retorno económico de la inversión en ciencia. En este contexto, es dudoso que la filosofía pueda apelar a justificaciones como la de la “potencial utilidad”, que tienen a su alcance otras ciencias básicas (Schwarz 2017). Hay dos cuestiones candentes y conjuntas que considerar aquí: (a) ¿qué hace de la filosofía todavía hoy una forma del saber socialmente aceptable?, y (b) ¿por qué el estado tiene que seguir manteniendo con fondos públicos esa disciplina dentro de las instituciones académicas? En este artículo me propongo esbozar una justificación posible del papel que puede caberle a la filosofía en el contexto actual (primeramente enfocado en Argentina); sugiero que esa justificación proviene de la necesidad de revisar críticamente la idea dominante del saber y apunta a reformular el proyecto del ideal humano de racionalidad.

    The current new design of the scientific system in Argentina as well as its associated criteria of productivity and academic impact put academic philosophy’s survival under a strong pressure. Although this ongoing process concerns fundamental sciences in general, one may think that some specific features of philosophy − including the time period for elaboration of its proper knowledge and its traditionally accepted validation criteria − are hardly compatible with the dominant idea of knowledge that is widely accepted in our societies; it is the idea that knowledge is valuable as far as it can be applied and may generate returns on investment. Within this context, it is doubtful that philosophy can be justified by means of the “potential usefulness” available to other fundamental sciences (Schwarz 2017). In my view, there are two red-hot related questions to consider here: (a) what makes philosophy a form of knowledge that is still acceptable for our society?, and (b) why the government should still invest public funds to continue to maintain this discipline within academic institutions? In this paper, I try to sketch a possible justification of the role of philosophy within the present context (focused on Argentina); I suggest that this justification comes from a necessary revision of the dominant idea of knowledge and aims at a reformulation of the project of the human ideal of rationality.
