    Escrito em homenagem aos 90 anos de Evanildo Bechara, este artigo analisa o texto historiográfico do gramático brasileiro “A tradição gramatical luso-brasileira”. Publicado no final da década de 1990, esse texto faz uma revisão histórica da produção gramatical dos séculos XIX e XX em Portugal e no Brasil. A perspectiva aqui adotada privilegia uma visão meta-historiográfica, pois pretende descrever e caracterizar a natureza do texto sobre gramáticas portuguesas e brasileiras, vistas sob um olhar comparativo, permeado de influências e permanências históricas. Por meio dessa delimitação teórica, alcança-se uma interpretação sobre o trabalho de Bechara, escrito na pauta de uma história que busca por continuidades e diálogos entre autores e obras, constituindo o que se entende por uma tradição na história das ideias linguísticas.

    Written in honor of Evanildo Bechara’s 90 years, this article analyzes the historiographical text of the Brazilian grammarian “A tradição gramatical luso-brasileira”.

    Published in the late 1990s, this text reviews the history of 19th and 20th century grammatical production in Portugal and Brazil. The perspective adopted here favors a meta-historiographic view, since it intends to describe and characterize the nature of the text on Portuguese and Brazilian grammars, seen under a comparative perspective, permeated by historical influences and continuities. Through this theoretical point of view, an interpretation of Bechara’s work is obtained, written on the agenda of a history that seeks continuities and dialogues between authors and works, constituting what is understood by a tradition in the history of linguistic ideas.
