This paper analyses the present syllabus used in Brunei schools. It questions the introduction and timing of school subjects, particularly in relation to which language medium is used for teaching. Assumptions about threshold levels, subject order and age are considered before an alternative syllabus is suggested. While principally devised for Brunei, the arguments for this alternative syllabus must also contain elements that would be appropriate for any country that wishes to adopt a bilingual education system.
