    • The article reports on the environmental problems caused by nitrogen pollution. The release of excessive amounts of nitrogen into the water cycle, from synthetic fertilizers and the burning of fossil fuels, can have many harmful effects. These include acid rain, ozone pollution, and damage to the oceans such as dead zones and algal blooms.
