The article reports on research which investigated whether saying words which produce a puff of air, such as punt, tackle and kick, can help listeners distinguish words with similar letter sounds, even though the puffs are so subtle that they go unnoticed. It was found that this was the case. It is hoped that this will lead to improvements in the design of hearing aids.
