It has been reported that only 206 Native American languages remain; this is a third of the original number, and of these approximately 50 are near extinction. Why are these languages disappearing? What are the various issues involved in ensuring that Native American languages are sustained and nurtured? Possible solutions are offered to the question of the disappearance of these minority languages.
