    Las principales instituciones jurídicas han reconocido casi siempre en el azar un peligro social. La combinación juego-apuesta, donde las pulsiones lúdicas se exponen en su máxima facultad hasta degenerar en problemas social, ha estimulado a las autoridades civiles y eclesiásticas hacia severas formas de vigilancia. Si intentara en el presente artículo mostrar como durante el s. XIV las normas positivas y negacionistas, tensadas hasta su extrema potencia, han producido un efecto contrario al deseado sobre el azar. por el contrario, la mens humanista de la segunda mitad del s. XV y de todo el s. XVI, han ofrecido sobre la base de normas animadas por la filosofía, la teología y la tradición, un intento de remedio al anti-juego, mostrando el fin del juego y su carácter principal: recreativo y social.

    The principal legal systems have almost always recognized that gambling is a danger to society. The combination game-bet/wager-money -which brings the human being's instincts for game playing to fever pitch, only to degrade subsequently intro social problems- moved the ecclesiastical and civil authorities to institute severe controls. It will be shown here how, throughout the fourteenth century, the norms -both "positive" and "negative"- taken to logical extremes, did actually have an effect on games of chance that was contrary to the intended one. On the other hand, in the second half of the fifteenth century, and throughout the sixteenth, on the basis of norms inspired by philosophy, theology and tradition, the humanist mens, offered a remedy to the "anti-game", by showing the proper purpose of game playing and setting forth its nature as principally recreational and social.
