• The article reports on the prevalence of suicide in the U.S. and on the need to prevent suicide among U.S. citizens and particularly among members of the U.S. military and among military veterans. A discussion of efforts that the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Defense have made to address and prevent suicide among military members and veterans is presented.
