The authors reflect on factors which lead to suicidal behavior among U.S. military veterans and on the role that clinical care providers can play in preventing suicide. They suggest that the reduction of suicide is recognized as a public health priority in the U.S. They argue that the sound delivery of evidence-based care for behavioral health conditions that confer risk for suicide is an important part of a comprehensive suicide prevention strategy.
