The article presents the authors' views on Brazil's health system. They hope that child malnutrition will soon be eliminated due to the new income-transfer program. They remark that although political, financial, and organizational constraints have prevented full implementation of desired changes in the country's health system, many important advancements have occurred over the past 20 years. They note that there are still problems in health service quality, especially in tertiary care.
