  • The article reports on research which two scientific teams conducted on a 200 kilometer wide asteroid called 24 Themis in 2010. Researchers who investigated the asteroid found that it contains water ice and other organic compounds on its surface. As a result of their research the teams concluded that asteroids may have provided earth with water for its oceans and may also have provided it with prebiotic compounds that are necessary for life to develop.
