Resumen de The dirty truth about plug-in hybrids.

Michael Moyer

  • The article presents an overview of research on the environmental impact of electric cars which was conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy. The research, which tracked electric cars that were located in 13 regions in the continental U.S. that were defined by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, examined the power sources that were located in each region and evaluated how electric cars would alter each region's power supply. They found that in regions where natural gas is dominant, electric cars reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but in areas that are powered by coal, electric vehicles lead to increased carbon dioxide emissions. The differences between all-electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid vehicles are discussed.
