  • The article presents an overview of molecular studies and research on ancient modern bird fossils which suggests that modern bird species, which were previously thought to have originated after dinosaurs became extinct, may have existed along side of dinosaurs. A discussion of theories which suggest that dinosaurs and many other species became extinct 65 million years ago as a result of an asteroid which impacted earth is presented. Questions which have been raised about why certain bird species survived extinction and others did not are discussed. INSETS: EARLIER ORIGIN;HARD EVIDENCE.
