In this article the author discusses whether convergence, which is the integration of the life, engineering and physical sciences, is a revolution in science or jargon. She argues that the concept of merging research tools and methods from separate disciplines is not new and discusses efforts by U.S. universities and colleges to foster cross-disciplinary research, such as opening facilities and revising hiring processes.
