  • Resumen
    • The article discusses scientific evidence that suggests the pace of prehistoric global warming was much worse than what human beings are facing in the 21st century. Topics include an overview of an abrupt global warming that occurred 56 million years ago, called the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), in which the Earth's temperature rose five degrees Celsius over a period of thousand years, the resemblance between the PETM and human-induced climate change in the 21st century, and how knowledge of what happened during the PETM could help scientists foresee what the future of humankind will be like. INSET: Now and Then.
