  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the development of a computing system by Dirk Helbing and colleagues at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, called the Living Earth Simulator, that can predict the future. The Simulator project, formerly known as the FurturICT Knowledge Accelerator and Crisis-Relief System, would model global-scale systems, including economies, governments, and cultural trends, using torrential data streams and algorithms to solve some of the world’s most challenging and complex problems. Topics include an overview of how the Simulator could provide answers to difficult questions, such as the global impact of a decision by Greece’s government to drop the euro as its currency, and the challenges that such a comprehensive system would have to overcome. INSET: Disease Follows the Money.
