Tejiendo La Calle es un proyecto abierto a la participación. Consiste en la elaboración de estructuras ligeras a modo de parasoles mediante técnica de ganchillo XXL que son instaladas en las calles de Valverde de La Vera durante la semana cultural y las fiestas de agosto en el pueblo. Comenzamos en enero de 2013 y continuamos trabajando en el proyecto actualmente. La instalación que se realiza ayuda a expresar la propia identidad del lugar, y se convierte en soporte de las intenciones y deseos de los participantes en el proyecto. Acoge a los visitantes y colabora en la elaboración de un ambiente con espíritu de celebración. Las piezas funcionan como protectores solares durante el día y algunos llevan incorporada luz por la noche, mostrando el camino a la plaza del pueblo, centro principal de encuentro durante las fiestas. Para la realización de los parasoles utilizamos material plástico. Reutilizamos bolsas de la compra o de basura que transformamos en largas tiras que son después tejidas. Las piezas resultantes son ligeras, impermeables y permiten ser almacenadas ocupando poco espacio. Pueden volver a utilizarse de año en año. La técnica empleada es la tradicional de ganchillo, adaptada a una escala mayor. Los motivos o representaciones son los propios de las labores realizadas tradicionalmente en la zona, se trata de dibujos que pertenecen al imaginario colectivo del lugar. Así mismo, cada participante realiza con libertad creativa sus propios nuevos diseños personales. Durante varios meses previos a la instalación cada tejedora o tejedor va tejiendo sus piezas de manera individual o asociándose con otras personas. Una vez al mes realizamos talleres de producción: encuentros en la plaza del pueblo donde compartimos experiencias y conocimientos, las más expertas enseñan a las primerizas, y mostramos los avances conseguidos. Es importante reconocer el valor de las labores realizadas históricamente por mujeres para la autogestión de sus propios hogares. En Tejiendo La Calle estos elementos domésticos autoproducidos se convierten en una obra colectiva para toda la comunidad, que transforma temporalmente el espacio público del municipio introduciendo elementos propios del ámbito doméstico permitiendo experimentarlo de forma diferente.

Tejiendo la Calle is a project open to participation. It consists on the crafting of light structures as parasols using XXL crochet technique that are installed in the streets of Valverde de La Vera for the cultural week and the August festivities in the town. We started in January 2013 and we continue working on the project now. The installation helps to express the identity of the comunity, and It becomes a support for the intentions and wishes of the participants in the project. It welcomes visitors and collaborates in the creation of an atmosphere with a spirit for celebration. The pieces work as suncrees during the day and some have light incorporated at night, showing the way to the town square, the main meeting center during the holidays. For the realization of the sunshades we re use plastic material. We reuse shopping bags or trash that we transform into long strips that we weave. The resulting pieces are light, waterproof and allow to be keeped occupying little space. They can be used again from year to year. The technique used is the traditional crochet adapted to a larger scale. The graphics or representations are those typical of the work done in the area, these are drawings that belong to the collective imaginary of the place. Likewise, each participant realizes with freedom her or his own personal designs. For several months prior to the installation each weaver is preparing his pieces individually or associating with other people. Once a month we carry out production workshops: meetings in the town square where we share experiences and knowledge, the experts teach their Know How to the beginers, and we share the progress made. It is important to recognize the value of the work done historically by women for the self-management of their own homes. In Tejiendo la Calle, these self-produced domestic elements become a collective work for the entire community, which temporarily transforms the public space of the municipality by introducing elements from the domestic sphere, allowing it to be experienced in a different way.
