  • This article examines the topographic evolution of the Campo Marzo Meridionale and in particular the area between the theatre of Marcellus and the modern road of the same name, by a chronological arc between the time of the Republic and late Antiquity. It is a synthesis that takes account of the most recent archaeological investigations and presents new data regarding the navigability, the paving of the area in front of the theatre of Marcellus and the sewers. There are also new observations and interpretations of other buildings in the area, including the portico which borders the temples of Apollo and Bellona, the ‘Perrirhanterion’ and the base of plinths standing in front of the temple of Apollo.
