Mucoceles are bning but is very important refer that the term mucous retention cyst refers to a mucocele in which there is partial obstruction to the flow of mucous with a slowbuild-up of presure duct to continued secretion by the closed part of the gland. The duct dilates, resulting in a mucouse retention cyst lived by a simple columnar or pseudostratified epithelium. Trauma, chiefly mechanical, appears to be rsponsable for damage to the ducts of minor salivary glands, resulting in the spillage of mucus into the lamina propia and submucous tissue. Over 70% ocurr on the lower lip. The bucal mucosa and less often, the oral floor and not uncommon sites.
