As the last paragraph of Martin’s letter records, both the Solar Gate article and the Viewpoint advocated the primacy of creativity in design and the need to embrace collaboration. This does not suggest the future emergence of the super engineer who can handle every single task themselves, but rather encouragement of engineers who can lead projects overall and not just specialise on the computation. The referenced Viewpoint is a radical call for major educational change and seems bound to stir up a mixed response: we have one below and Verulam awaits other readers’ views with interest!
