  • The article discusses how to prevent bat deaths from wind turbines. Topics include increased public pressure and scrutiny from wildlife officials, which has motivated wind energy companies to protect bats, the dangers of wind turbines to migrating and cave-hibernating bats, whose numbers are declining because of a fungal disease called white-nose syndrome, and three targeted strategies to protect bats, such as operational changes and the use of ultrasonic devices and ultraviolet (UV) light.
