In this article the author argues against a policy by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) requiring NIH-funded medical researchers to test male and female animals and cells in every experiment. Topics include a commentary in the journal "Nature" by director and associate director for NIH's Research on Women's Health, Francis Collins and Janine Clayton, respectively, on the NIH's policy, the cost and time to modify experiments, and the exclusion of females from research.
