  • The article discusses the return of bedbugs in the U.S. after a 50-year absence. According to the author, the bedbug (Cimex lectularius) was largely eradicated as a result of the development of broad-spectrum pesticides, such as the insecticide DDT. He notes that bedbug infestation is not limited to crowded, urban areas, but has extended into college dormitories, upscale hotels, and retail establishments.
