  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the return of bedbugs in the U.S. after a 50-year absence. According to the author, the bedbug (Cimex lectularius) was largely eradicated as a result of the development of broad-spectrum pesticides, such as the insecticide DDT. He notes that bedbug infestation is not limited to crowded, urban areas, but has extended into college dormitories, upscale hotels, and retail establishments. Topics include a historical overview of humanity's struggle with bedbugs, factors influencing their return, such as insecticide resistance, and research identifying several aspects of bedbug biology and behavior that may lead to their successful detection and eradication. INSETS: A Brief History of Bed Bug;Know Thy Enemy.
