  • A timeline is presented of events related to influenza (flu) including the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918 caused by the H1N1 flu virus, the Asian flu pandemic in 1957 caused by the H2N2 flu virus, and the first known instance of human infection with the H5N1 virus in Hong Kong, China in 1997.
