  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the potential health risks of untested stem cell therapies used by professional athletes such as baseball players Bartolo Colón and C.J. Nitkowski. Proponents believe that stem cells can repair and regenerate damaged connective tissues such as ligaments and tendons, but the new tissues are less flexible and strong and can cause further injury by adhering to other tissues. Topics include the influence of stem cell use by sports celebrities on its public acceptance and use, research into the role of bone marrow mesenchymal cells in stem cell regeneration, and the use of stem cells to treat injuries in racehorses.
