  • The article discusses the research and development (R&D) of seven next-generation materials. Topics include polymer-based aerogels by scientists at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Glenn Research Center and Ohio Aerospace Institute, both in Clevelend, Ohio, nanotube-based batteries by scientists at California's Stanford University, flexible concrete sheets, called Concrete Cloth, and a novel type of surface coating, called slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS), by researchers at Harvard University's Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering in Massachusetts.
