This contribution deals with the relationship between the institutional reception system and the territories in which reception centres are located. In order to do that, the contribution describes the cases of two mobilisations put in place by the residents of a popular neigh-bourhood where an Hotspot is located, and by a group of vulnerable asylum seekers forced to live in an isolated area of Messina, namely the city where the ethnographic research was conducted between 2015 and 2017.
