This text explores home-school proximity among youths attending lower secondary schools in Bologna. Via geolocation of school and students’ addresses, characteristics of pupils preferring schools closest to home are identified in light of city area, migration status, family cultural background, and potential and actual recruitment capabilities of each school. First-generation immigrants and students of low social background residing in disadvantaged areas express a greater tendency towards educational immobility.
