Photographs are often described as windows into the past, and it couldn't be more true for these glass lantern slides. The five images are from a collection of more than 7000, amassed by staff of the American Museum of Natural History for more than 100 years. The collection as now been digitized and was published online last week. While the names of the original photographers have been lost, some information about the pictures still remains
