  • The article discusses a surge in China's international patents and the emergence of a novel, international form of research and development (R&D). Topics include the number of patents owned by multinational corporations located in China that were filed with the U.S. patent office between 1996 and 2010, the establishment of multinational R&D centers in China, and the economic aspects of international co-invention between Chinese engineers and multinational R&D centers.
