The article looks at research published in "Journal of Experimental Biology," by developmental biologist Michael Levin and team on memory processing of planarians, a group of flatworms capable of regeneration. They looked at the feeding behavior of worms in familiar environments, then decapitated the worms. After their heads regenerated, the worms rapidly resumed feeding in the same environment, indicated that their dormant memories were stored outside of their brains.
