  • Resumen
    • In the Middle Ages, literature in Galician language was mainly produced thanks to royal or noble patrons willing to promote it. This patronage began to operate at the end of the 12th century and lasted until the second half of the 15th century. During the transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age, the Galician language lost definitely the prestige it had previously enjoyed among social and intellectual elites. For this reason, promoting the writing of literary or historical works written in Galician ceased to be a seductive activity for potential patrons. In this paper I make a summary presentation of medieval literature in Galician language that takes as a reference point the list of the figures of the royal or noble patrons who made it possible.
