The author reflects on differences between the Cuban health system and the U.S. health system. He mentions communitarian sensibilities practiced by Cubans in regards to childhood vaccination in which over 99 percent of Cuban children are vaccinated compared to 70 percent in the U.S., and talks about how Cuba unified public health and primary medical care under its Ministry of Public Health. He comments on health inequalities in the U.S. compared to Cuba where there are no direct medical costs.
