Vaginas grown in the lab from womens' own cells have been successfully transplanted for the first time. Four women who were born without a vaginal canal because of a rare condition had the operation when they were teenagers. Several years on, they now have fully functioning sexual organs. The four women had an undeveloped vagina because they had a severe form of a condition called Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome (MRKH), which affects about 1 in 5000 women to varying degrees
