Cuerpos de trapo, sujetos vacíos

    Es evidente que las sociedades disciplinarias han ayudado mucho a la invisibilidad de nuestros cuerpos, pero no es menos cierto que esa “descorporización” también puede ser, en mayor o en menor medida, el síntoma visible de un vacío del sujeto en el mundo contemporáneo. La relación de la obra de Tony Oursler con el Trastorno Disociativo de Identidad permite extender esta patología clínica a una reflexión sobre la vaciedad de los sujetos en un mundo acosado por las imágenes que todos conocemos, imágenes performativas que ofrecen múltiples identidades con las que “llenar” ese hueco. La performatividad de las imágenes en la construcción de subjetividades “alternativas” es, en este caso, muy obvia, y la relación especular de los sujetos con los medios de masas tiene unas consecuencias que no han escapado al análisis de importantes pensadores.

    It is evident that disciplinary societies have contributed a great deal to the invisibility of our bodies, but the fact remains that this ‘disembodiment’ can also be, to a greater or lesser extent, the visible symptom of a void in the subject in the contemporary world. The relation of Tony Oursler’s work with the Dissociative Identity Disorder allows to extend this clinical pathology to a reflection on the vacuity of subjects in a world haunted by the images we all know, performative images that offer multiple identities with which to ‘fill’ that gap. The performativity of the images in the construction of ‘alternate’ subjectivities is, in this case, very obvious, and the specular relation of the subjects with the mass-media have consequences that have not escaped the analysis of important thinkers.
