  • This introduction to the language Situation in California is intended to complement Sims's article (this issue) on the history and Status of Karuk.

    This overview puts Karuk into statewide perspective by viewing the Status of indigenous languages throughout California, reviewing the history of their decline, and describing efforts being made by Native California communities toward language survival and restoration.
